How to prepare for your visit

Before you arrive for your breast thermography, certain protocol must be followed in order to ensure that your images reflect accurate information. Please read the following instructions and strictly adhere to them. 

Please note

  • No chemotherapy or radiation treatments three months before imaging.
  • No breast biopsy for three months prior.
  • No prolonged sun exposure (especially sunburn) to the chest and breast areas 5 days prior to the exam.
  • If you are male and coming for a prostate or testicular image please invite a female to accompany you. 

24 hours before your exam

  • No treatment (chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS, physical therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, hot or cold pack use) of the neck, back, chest, or breasts for 12 hours before the exam.
  • No massage or lymph treatments.
  • No exercise including swimming or heavy physical activity.
  • No alcohol consumption.
  • No physical stimulation of the breasts for 12 hours prior to the exam.
  • No saunas, steam baths or hot tubs.

Day of exam

  • Do not use any lotions, creams, powders, or makeup on the breasts, and no use of deodorants or antiperspirants.
  • No shaving/plucking (or other types of hair removal) of the chest, breasts, or underarms for 24 hours prior to the exam.
  • If bathing/showering, it must be no closer than 4 hours before the exam.
  • If you are nursing, please try to nurse as far from 1 hour prior to the exam as possible.
  • If  head is being imaged do not eat for at least 2 hours prior to exam.
  • Drink room temperature water - avoid hot or cold drinks.
  • No gum chewing
  • Avoid heat or air conditioning blowing directly on you.
  • If you are using pain medications, please avoid taking them for 4 hours prior to the examination. You must consult with the prescribing  physician for his or her consent prior to any change in medication use such as this.

You will disrobe in a private area and put on a hospital gown. Your body will need to equilibrate to room temperature which is kept between 68 to 72 degrees F which typically takes 5-10 minutes. 

Carol or Rachel will be performing all your imaging.

If you have copies of any other test results (Mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies) please bring them with you.
